May Athlete of the Month - Clint Humphrey
Every month we will honor one athlete and recognize them for the effort they put into their fitness as well as the effort they put into building our awesome community. This athlete is someone who gives it their best consistently and is committed to CrossFit and to reaching their goals. They are all about helping those around them become the best version of themselves and inspire those around them.
Tell us something we don’t know about you and your family. After much coercion, my wife Krissy started CrossFit several months ago and she loves it! I have a 7 year-old daughter, Mae, and a 9 year-old son, Sam. They like messing around at the gym as well.
Hobbies, Talents, Skills outside of CrossFit? Cycling, running, reading, cooking, drinking wine, snowboarding, hanging with my kids
When did you start CrossFit? September 2017
What did you think after completing your first CrossFit workout? Whoa, this is really hard but also pretty cool.
Main reason for joining BVCF? I used to run 15 to 20 miles every week and ended up with iliotibial band syndrome that made it painful to even walk up a flight of stairs. I joined BVCF to get stronger and add variety to my workouts. I still run long distances occasionally, but avoiding the repetition has prevented any recurrence of my injury.
What is your fitness background? I enjoy running and cycling long distances. I have done a half marathon in the past as well as a lot of organized rides in the area.
How has BVCF changed your life? When I head to work after a morning workout at BVCF my mood improves and my energy level increases. Attempting to master new skills like Olympic lifting techniques and gymnastics is really challenging and something that I never knew I would enjoy before trying CrossFit. I’ve also met several new friends that I look forward to seeing at the gym.
What results have you seen so far since coming to BVCF? I am stronger and my clothes fit better.
What is your favorite workout or lift? I like snatching.
Least favorite? Squat cleans are my least favorite. I’m pretty inefficient.
Proudest moment at BVCF? Doing my first pull-up since college.
What is your CrossFit goal in the next 6 months? Beyond? I would like to be able to string together 10 pull-ups and 10 toes to bar. I want to improve my performance in the CrossFit Open every year.
What advice would you give to a newbie or someone just joining CrossFit? Try it for 2 months and you’ll be hooked.
